IndiaAI Mission Supports Our Work on Floods & Landslides
It is a major inspiration for us that the Government of India, through the IndiaAI Mission, is supporting our ideas and our long-term vision for improving flood and landslide intelligence. This recognition strengthens our commitment to scale our work and build impactful solutions for environmental resilience.
A Landmark Moment for Indian Innovation
Hon’ble Minister of Electronics and IT, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced support for around 30 AI applications selected from nearly 900 proposals under the IndiaAI Mission. One of them is our work — “An AI-accelerated platform to map floods using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Deep Learning,” led by Nirdesh Kumar Sharma.
We have already released Version 1 of the platform, with further enhancements underway as we build it into a full-scale global system. It’s remarkable how fast (<1 year) the government has moved to support deep-tech research across academia and startups.
Some key experiences stood out:
- A national-level recognition of our work on floods and landslides.
- Meaningful conversations with researchers, innovators, and ecosystem leaders.
- Excitement around the platform’s potential to scale globally with high accuracy and speed.
I also feel grateful for the continued support from IndiaAI, whose coordination, mentorship, and engagement have meaningfully accelerated the development of this platform.
A Personal Highlight — Support From IndiaAI Mission
One of the most encouraging aspects of this journey has been the validation from IndiaAI and the broader ecosystem.
Their support has helped transform our ideas into a deployable, high-impact platform — a reminder that encouragement and belief from the ecosystem can shift trajectories in powerful ways.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue advancing this work with a focus on innovation, collaboration, and global impact.
Recognition for Our Flooding Research Model
EarthSense Labs, IIT Delhi has been awarded the IndiaAI Innovation Challenge Grant for its state-of-the-art AI-driven flooding model. You can read more about the research and methodology in the published paper below:
